Infiltration and Inflow: Deteriorating Infrastructure
We are back up and running online! Finally our first post!
Today is just a brief reminder of our deteriorating infrastructure. As most of us in this industry know, our country has an aging and deteriorating infrastructure system. Unfortunately, collection systems municipalities use to collect both wastewater and stormwater flows, are included in that aging infrastructure. This deterioration can cause infiltration and inflow or what we in the business call I&I. This can cause a multitude of problems such as sewer backups, flooding, collapsed streets, and contamination of nearby water resources. TeleVac South has noted a steady increase in all these problems. This can cause the owner of the system great expense.
Collection systems require regular monitoring and maintenance, as do all other areas of the wastewater system. A few signs your collection system is in need of maintenance could be excessive treatment costs, lift station overflows, sewer system overflows or bypasses, water quality problems and surcharging of manholes resulting in loss of pipe. These are just a few of the signs of a failing collection system.
The great news is TeleVac South can assist in getting your collection system problems resolved.
TeleVac can provide CCTV inspections, smoke testing, and visual inspection. CCTV Inspection is the most effective and high-tech of pinpointing and evaluating sources of I&I.
